  1. Hobbies

Hobbies are activities we do during our free time that allows us to relax while doing something we enjoy. Through hobbies, our leisure time is used for entertainment and fun. For young children and teenagers, a hobby can be a way to develop their skills and talent and of course to keep them away from things like drugs, alcohol and bad company.

Some people are lucky with their jobs because they do what they want and like to do. Their job-becomes their hobby. It is a case of work going with pleasure and fun. Not all of are so fortunate. Work is not a hobby for most of us.

Not everyone likes the same hobby. Our choice of hobby depends on our interest and environment. A popular hobby is collecting objects such as stamps, postcards, badges, model cars, ships, coins, guns, beetles or even bottles. Collectors attend special shows where they have the chance to swap their items with others.

The hobby of many teenagers is doing physical activities, for example playing ball games like football, basketball, volleyball, golf, bowling, water polo, squash, tennis and table tennis. Other activities include running, jogging, swimming, going camping, hiking, fishing or hunting. However, not all of us are good at sports. So for some, their hobby is watching television, reading books or magazines, watching video or DVD or playing board games such as chess, cards, scrabble or monopoly.

A lot of people take pleasure in art and they spend their free time painting, drawing, pottering, singing or listening to music. They like to visit theatres, ballet and concerts. The most popular art is music. It is quite common to see young people walking down the street with headsets on. The younger generation is crazy for computers, playing all sorts of computer and play-station games and surfing the Internet. They can spend many hours a day on the computer.

Having a hobby helps to make you a more interesting person and gives you something fascinating to talk about with others. It can also help you to avoid feeling bored and often provides the opportunity to meet new people with similar interests. Learning something new is always good for keeping the mind alert and active as is a long-term interest that enthralls you.

As to what hobby to choose, these are some steps to follow. First, think of a hobby that might interest you. It can be an interest that you have always wished you had time to explore, but never had the time or money required to pursue. It can be collecting things for a hobby. Think of the items you might like to collect, for example, coins, dolls or chocolate wrappers. You will need to consider how you will get your collectibles, where you will put them and whether you will display them. Sports make a good hobby. Watch soccer, basketball, athletics or tennis tournaments on television.

The point is it does not matter what hobby you have as long as you have a great time doing it. However, it must not be a hobby that harms your health and body. If it does, it certainly defeats the purpose of having a hobby which should be a positive way of spending our time.
